The production of the hormone, oestrogen, is significantly affected by the menopause which in turn leads to a slower production process within cells, such as fibroblasts.

Fibroblasts are responsible for producing collagen, elastin and the dermal matrix, the skin’s natural mattress filling. During the menopause, they lose over 99% of their tone, meaning they are unable to maintain the tension between the collagen and elastin fibres, which are necessary for a toned, firmed appearance in the skin.
